John B. Henderson Celebrates his 85th Birthday (date unknown)
No. 240 - Uncited clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection" of Beth Rengers Talken, 1998.

John B. HENDERSON recently celebrated the 85th year of his age. Much has been written about his youth and early manhood, but the chroniclers don't seem to know much about his life until he went from here to Pike county. When a small boy he lived with the parents of E.M. BROWNING out in the old Crooked Creek district, where Col. DYER, Dave BALL, Senator AVERY and several more of us went to school in the early days. When HENDERSON was quite a lad his father took him to the home of the Mr. GREEN, a wagon maker near Troy, for the purpose of learning the wagon maker's trade. The GREEN premises were out on the Moscow road this side of SCHUCHMANN's slaughter house. After they had got to GREEN's, young HENDERSON pursuaded his father not to apprentice him to learn a trade as he was anxious to go to school. So it was arranged that he should board there and attend school in town, which he did for one or two terms, walking to school and back every day. He afterwards taught in this county and then went to Pike, where the writers pick up the story of his progress. There are a few old citizens still living who remember the sad ending of the senior HENDERSON's life.
