Obituary for Amanda M. Tice (1811-1904)
No. 138 - Uncited clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection" of Beth Rengers Talken, 1998.

A Mother in Isreal called from the walks of life on earth the Celestial City of our God.

Mrs. Amanda M. TICE (nee WYATT) died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edgar BROWNING, in this city, March 10, 1904, at 10:30 o'clock. She was born in the state of Kentucky, September 11, 1811, and came with her parents to Missouri when she was nine years old. She was married to Mr. John W. TICE in Warren county, Mo. about the year 1837. All her children preceded her to the grave except two, Joseph TICE, of the state of Washington, and Mrs. Edgar BROWNING, with whom she was residing at the time of her death. Dr. D.W. TICE, her eldest son, died only a few months ago.

Grandma TICE, as she was familiarly called, became a member of the Methodist church, south, about the year 1835, and down through all the years since lived in strict conformity to the glorious cause she so foundly espoused.

She was truly a Mother in Israel, a devoted wife, fond and loving mother, a neighbor of spotless character; her motto in life was faith, hope and charity. She leaves surviving her, besides her two children, 22 grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and many nephews and nieces, and one brother, the venerable Douglas WYATT, of Jonesburg, Mo. Grandma TICE was well known and greatly beloved by many people in Warren and Lincoln counties.
She lived to the ripe old age of ninety-two years and six months lacking one day. Her funeral was conducted at the home where she died, March 11, at 2 o'clock, by Rev. MAJOR pastor of the M.E. church in this city, whose discourse found a warm place in every heart of the large and sorrowing audience present. Her remains were escorted to the city cemetery, where the last sad, but loving rites were performed. Thus passed away a mother whose good works and charity will follow her. To her bereaved daughter, son, brother and loved ones, I lovingly commend that great consolation given by the Blessed Master to his sorrowing disciples: [obituary ends there]
