Obituary for Robert Lee Moore (1864-1912)
No. 091 - Uncited clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection" of Beth Rengers Talken, 1998.

The subject of this sketch was born 7 miles northwest of Troy, Lincoln county, Mo., March 20, 1864. He was the youngest of eleven children born to John L. and Agnes MOORE; one having died in infancy, there survive: William, John, Alford, Mrs. Mary ROLLINSON, Mrs. Martha GILMORE and Miss Nannie of Lincoln county, Mrs. Fannie STEPHENS of Bellflower, D.A. of St. Louis and Thomas, of Richmond, Cal.

His education was obtained in the district school of his community, and later he attended a private school in Troy. About 24 years ago he graduated from a medical college in St. Louis where he has since practiced his profession. Dr. MOORE was never married.

More than a year ago his once bust [sic] health began to fail and continued to do so until on the ___ day of June, 1912, he succumbed to that dreaded disease, consumption. His remains were brought to Da___ on the noon train Thursday, June ___ and from there taken to Sulphur Lick cemetery, where in the presence of a large gathering of sorrowing relatives and friends, funeral services were conducted by the writer, after which his body was placed by the side of his mother to await the day "When all who are in their graves shall come forth."

Nothing that was done so revealed the esteem in which he was held by those who knew him as the beautiful floral offering so tastefully and tenderly placed upon his tomb. It must have been deserved. It appealed to all.  The pall-bearers were: Wallace WILSON, W.E. SWAN, Robert MARTIN, E.B. WOOLFOLK, Dr. R.L. ROBINSON and John T. HENRY, all of Troy.

Of his life the writer has no personal acquaintance, but friends who knew him spoke in the highest terms of appreciation of his worthfulness. He moved in the best of society and had a large circle of acquaintances, yet newsboys, bell boys, and all poor found in him a friend. None were refused his professional care because of being poor. This alone reflects character of the finest fiber.

God's preserving care of this, one of the pioneer families of this county, is something note-worthy. Dr. MOORE was 48 years of age and is survived by nine brothers and sisters, all older than he. This, it seems to me, should be a source of the profoundest gratitude by those who remain of the family and their friends. May we all strive to live worthy of many days.
