Obituary for Florence Gibson (1872-?)
No. 055 - Uncited clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection" of Beth Rengers Talken, 1998.

On April 5, 1872, a daughter was born to Rtv. and Mrs. J.B. ALLEN, Troy. Mo., which received the name of Florence. She was a beautiful child, and grew to be a lovable, sweet girl, with gentle manners, and beautiful christian character, and moved easily into school life, Sunday school and church membership and all the duties and privileges of a cultivated community. After the high school she attended Wesleyan Female College, Stauton Va. Her active mind grasped the studies of the course eagerly, and she became an adept, especially in literature.  On October 14, 1891, she was married to Rev. Geo. M. GIBSON, a member of the Missouri Annual Conference. There was never a more happy marriage. The home life was beautiful, complete.

Mrs. GIBSON was a charming hostess, a delightful companion to a visiting minister, a diplomat to compose the disturbed elements in the church, a friend and adviser of the college student, a mother guiding her family with rare tact and skill, a helper of the poor, a good neighbor; she brought sunshine everywhere, into all circles. Her friendships were as enduring as the mountains.

The children, Kate, Maud and George, the youngest, (eighteen) were their mother's pride and joy, and had the pleasure of being at home the last vacation and to receive a mother's instruction in domestic affairs. Although she leaves them unexpectedly, they are trained in the plain essential duties of home making, educated in the schools, and accomplished in the arts.

She had been busy during the summer getting the children ready to be away from the home during term time, and had lost weight and strength, but now that this was over, a trip home and cooler weather would restore wasted strength it was said. But not so.

The body was buried in the beautiful cemetery of the litle city where she was born, reared, married and passed from earth to glory.

The friends of her childhood arranged the wreath of flowers in the church and the present writer tried to conduct the service.

The power of this beautiful life will continue. Hurrying business men will yield to its silent sway. Jurists will heed its persuasive appeal. Young men and women of the ___rches strived will be inspirted to ___oic endeavor. College students ___ other days, now in the thick of __ battle, will stop, when they hea__ __ sad message, and lift up thei_ __ts in thanksgiving, that the __ __ known her.

--Rev. John Ande___
