Obituary for Hugh P. Broyles (1842-1918)
No. 017 - Uncited clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection" of Beth Rengers Talken, 1998.

Hugh P. BROYLES well-known to his many relatives and friends as "Uncle Billy" BROYLES, was born at Briscoe August 18, 1842, and died at the Lutheran Hospital at St. Louis December 4 at 7 p.m. He was therefore 76 years, 3 months and 16 days old at the time of his death.

Mr. BROYLES was never married and is survived by two brothers, Milton and W.W., and two sisters, Mrs. Wm. FIELDER and Mrs. Peoria WELLS. He had been sick for the past two months and, although, he was given the best of care, he could not recover. He was a good, honest, Christian man, a man of good character and sterling qualities. He will be mourned sincerely by his relatives and by many friends in the community in which he [obit ends; I think the continuence may this:] had lived for the past 52 years.

Funeral services were held at his home in Foley by Rev. M.D. DUDLEY and his body was laid to rest in the Corinth cemetery.

Note regarding clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection":  Neva Murphy Hubbard (1886-1971) lived all of her life in Lincoln County, MO.  She collected a large file of clippings of Lincoln County residents. The majority of the clippings were without citation. Beth Rengers Talken, beneficiary of the collection, has transcribed them for inclusion in our Lincoln County Heritage Records.
