Obituary for James A. Brown (1841-1912)
No. 015 - Uncited clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection" of Beth Rengers Talken, 1998.

James A. BROWN was born in Lincoln county, Mo., September 10, 1841, and died at his home in Troy, August 31, 1912, aged 70 years, 11 months and 20 days. He grew to manhood and spent his entire life in his native county. He was married to Miss Mary E. HUBBARD, also a native of Lincoln county, Dec. 13, 1864. Ten children were born to this union, of whom only five now survive, four sons and one daughter. His first wife died in 1886 and after a time he married Miss Annie SKINNER, but she lived only a short time. In 1890, he was married to Mrs. Mary A. ANDERSON, who survives him.

Mr. BROWN united with the old Baptist church at Sand Run in 1885, and remained a faithful member until his death. He was serving his last year of a four-year term as treasurer of Lincoln county at the time of his death. His funeral was preached at his late home by the writer and the remains were then taken to the Faulconer graveyard, where they were interred with the honors of Masonry by Moscow Mills lodge, of which he had long been a member. May the comfort of the Holy Spirit sustain the bereaved companion and sorrowing relatives.
--John CONLEY

Note regarding clippings from the "Neva Murphy Hubbard Collection":  Neva Murphy Hubbard (1886-1971) lived all of her life in Lincoln County, MO.  She collected a large file of clippings of Lincoln County residents. The majority of the clippings were without citation. Beth Rengers Talken, beneficiary of the collection, has transcribed them for inclusion in our Lincoln County Heritage Records.
