From "Moscow Mills Memories," 1976 (FHL microfilm #0982159):  "Hubbard School District #90 is on the southern boundary of Lincoln County. It was first known as Hickory Grove because of the beautiful hickory trees growing on that acre of land. Later, before 1900, it became known as the Hubbard School possibly in honor of Harrison Hubbard and his brother Barton, who bought the land in 1846."

NOTE:  The USGS Geographic Names Information System identifies the Hubbard School as now abandoned and also known as the Hickory Grove School.   The map coordinates are 39.5442 degrees North and 90.5542 degrees West, which places it south of Troy on county road U just west of highway 61.
